Additional Montreal Canadiens Info

Founded in 1909, the Montreal Canadiens are the longest continuously operating professional ice hockey team worldwide. The franchise is also one of the “Original Six” teams that made up the NHL from 1942 until the 1967 expansion.

The Montreal Canadiens have won the Stanley Cup 24 times, an NHL record. Only the New York Yankees, with 25 World Series victories, have more championship titles. The Montreal Canadiens’ won their first Stanley Cup in 1924, which kicked off decades of some of the most impressive on-ice action that Montreal Canadiens Ticket Holders were fortunate enough to witness.

In the 1940s, Montreal Canadiens fans saw the “Punch Line” in action. This legendary offensive line consisted of Elmer Lach, Toe Blake, and Maurice Richard. They’re known for bringing home 2 Stanley Cup wins and their love of rough play. From 1953 to 1960, the Canadiens won 6 Stanley Cups, thanks to new stars Jean Beliveau, Doug Harvey, and Bernie “Boom Boom” Geoffrion, who earned his nickname because of his thundering slapshot.

The Canadiens racked up 10 more championships from 1965 to 1979. In the 1976–1977 season, the Montreal Canadiens lost only eight games, a record that remains unbroken today. In the 1977–1978 season, the team had a 28-game winning streak, the second-longest in NHL history.

After their last Stanley Cup win in 1993, the Canadiens fell into a slump, failing to advance past the second round of the playoffs until 2010. However, Montreal Canadien Ticket Holders saw them become the first team in NHL history to reach 3,000 victories with their 5–2 win over the Panthers in December 2008.

A renewed energy in the team in recent years hints at more exciting victories to come. Get your tickets to see the legendary Montreal Canadiens in action at Golden Tickets.
